Established in 1996 by a husband and wife team, our company was founded on the core principles of exceptional craftsmanship, unwavering integrity, and the enduring value of family. For over two decades, we have grown into a small and strong business with the capability to handle any project, yet we’ve never lost the personal touch that comes from being family-owned and operated. We don’t just build decks—we build lasting relationships with our clients throughout the Fox Valley.
A Lifelong Passion for Building
Our founder’s story begins right here in the area. Born in Aurora, IL, in 1971, he grew up with a natural curiosity for how things were put together. From a young age, he was always working on a project, much to his father’s occasional frustration when tools went missing. Before the age of 11, he was already building wooden go-carts, neighborhood tree houses, and bike ramps—learning the fundamentals of construction through pure, hands-on passion.
His father was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer who believed in the power of tackling any project himself, instilling a powerful work ethic and a deep appreciation for building. This foundation of hard work was further cemented by a first job as a paperboy at age 11, followed by a job at McDonald’s at 16. After completing high school, a career in the construction field was a natural fit. After years of honing his skills working for several different contractors, a new vision began to form.
The Foundation of Creative Decks, Inc.
The year 1996 was a milestone. It was the year our founder married his wife, and together, they took a leap of faith to start their own business—Creative Decks, Inc. They saw an opportunity to create a company that focused solely on building high-quality outdoor living spaces, combining technical skill with a level of customer care they felt was missing in the industry. What started as a two-person operation has since grown through word-of-mouth and a reputation for excellence. Today, we are proud to offer a full suite of comprehensive decking services, from design to restoration.
Building a Family Legacy
Family is at the heart of everything we do. Our founders have raised three children—one daughter and two sons—while building this business from the ground up. This experience has shaped the most important part of our company’s vision for the future.
